Primary PE & Sports Funding
In March 2013 the government announced that it was to provide additional funding of £150 million per annum to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools in England - The Primary PE & Sport Premium. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - is allocated to primary school head teachers. The funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.
Purpose of funding:
Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this. For example, they can use their funding to:

hire qualified sports coaches to work with teachers

provide existing staff with training or resources to help them teach PE and sport more effectively

introduce new sports or activities and encourage more pupils to take up sport

support and involve the least active children by running or extending school sports clubs and holiday clubs

run sport competitions
-
increase pupils’ participation in the school games
-
run sports activities with other schools
Vision:
All pupils leaving primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.
Objective:
To achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of PE and sport in primary schools.
We would expect indicators of such improvement to include:
The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick-starting healthy active lifestyles
- The profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement
- Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
- Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
- Increased participation in competitive sport
Accountability:
Schools are held to account over how they spend their additional, ring-fenced funding. Ofsted have strengthen the coverage of PE and sport within the 'Inspectors’ handbook' and supporting guidance so that both schools and inspectors know how sport and PE is assessed as part of the school’s overall provision.
Schools are also required to include details of their provision of PE and sport on their website, alongside details of their broader curriculum, so that parents can compare sports provision between schools, both within and beyond the school day.
As a school we are delighted with the governments announcement that the sport premium doubled starting in 2017. The government believe the increased funding will enable all pupils to leave primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.
Junior Sports Leaders
Our Junior Sports leaders work closely with Mr Smith to improve the profile of school sport to their peers. They will undertake various roles throughout the year and attend multiple training courses specific to their role.
Junior sports Leaders are currently involved in ensuring playtimes and lunchtimes are fun and enjoyable for all children and helping to improve purposeful activity levels of children during these times. Not only this but our sports leaders are helping to improve the delivery of physical education by interviewing their class mates to see how we can inspire children to engage in more sporting opportunities both inside and outside of school.

Sports Festivals and Competitions
As part of our continuing partnership with Dinnington High School we are usually able to attend a number of various sports festivals across the school year. All festivals attended are linked to the national initiative run by Sainsburys School Games providing our children with opportunities to progress to compete at local, county and even national levels.
